How We Verify A Barndominium Builder
A builder gets the verified badge only after we’ve checked five things ourselves, and each check carries the date we did it. If a check goes stale, the badge comes off until we redo it.
The five checks · re-checked every 12 months
- ✓ License. Looked up on the state licensing board’s own site. Where the state has no builder license, as in Texas, we check the licensed trades and record that the state has none. dated
- ✓ Insurance. General liability and workers’ comp certificates sent to us by the insurance agent, never forwarded by the builder. dated
- ✓ Completed barndominiums. At least three finished projects, confirmed with the homeowners or by address. dated
- ✓ Business entity. Active and in good standing with the Secretary of State, under the same name that goes on the contract. dated
- ✓ Service area. The counties the builder actually works in, stated by them and shown on their page. dated
What Verification Doesn't Mean
It isn’t a guarantee of workmanship, price or schedule. It confirms the facts that can be confirmed, so you start from a builder who is real, insured and experienced. Visit a finished build and read your contract before you sign.
Featured Builders And Payment
Some builders pay to be featured in their region, and that’s how this site is funded. Every featured builder has passed the same five checks. Payment can buy a position on the page. It can never buy the badge, and a builder who stops paying keeps the badge as long as their checks are current.
Report A Problem
If something on a builder’s page is wrong, or you’ve had a serious problem with a listed builder, tell us. We re-check on any credible report and remove the badge if a check no longer holds.
