Find A Barndominium Builder You Can Actually Check

Every builder we list has been checked against state licensing records, insurance and completed barndominiums, and the date of each check is on their page. Where a state doesn’t license builders at all, we show you exactly what to verify instead.

What A Verified Listing Records ✓ Verified

  • ✓ License checked against the state licensing board dated
  • ✓ Insurance certificate sent by the agent, not the builder dated
  • ✓ Three completed barndominiums confirmed dated
  • ✓ Business entity active with the Secretary of State dated
  • ✓ Counties served, in the builder’s own words dated

How It Works

Step 1

Tell Us About Your Build

Where you’re building, what size, and whether you have plans. It takes about two minutes.

Step 2

We Match You In Your Region

If a verified builder covers your area, your request goes straight to them. If not yet, we connect you with a trusted network of local pros.

Step 3

Compare And Vet

Use our state guide to check each builder before you sign anything. It tells you what to ask and what a bad quote looks like.

Licensing Varies More Than Most Buyers Expect

The first check most people think of, “is this builder licensed?”, means something different in every state. Three examples:

No state license

Texas

Texas has no statewide residential builder license at all. Only electricians, plumbers and HVAC contractors are licensed by the state, so you verify the subs, the business and the finished work instead.

Certified vs. registered

Florida

A Florida registered contractor may only work in the jurisdiction where they qualified; a certified contractor can work statewide. It matters if your builder is from another county.

$40,000 threshold

North Carolina

Anyone managing construction of $40,000 or more needs a state license, and the license’s limitation caps the size of job they can take.

Each state guide covers licensing, permits, septic rules, costs and how to vet a builder there.

Don’t Have Floor Plans Yet?

Most builders ask for plans on the first call. Browse barndominium floor plans with prices before you start collecting quotes.

Building A Shop, Garage Or Commercial Building?

Steel shop and garage builds go through a different set of suppliers. Tell us about it and we’ll send it to the right people.

Questions Buyers Ask First

Do builders pay to be listed?

Some do. Featured builders pay for placement in their region, and every one of them passes the same checks as everyone else. Payment can buy a position on the page. It can never buy the verified badge.

What if no verified builder covers my area yet?

We’ll still help. Your request goes to a trusted network of local pros, and the state guide shows you how to check whoever calls you back.

Is verification a guarantee of good work?

No. Verification confirms the things that can be confirmed: license, insurance, business entity and completed projects, each with a date. It doesn’t replace visiting a finished build and reading your contract carefully.
